Privacy Policy

Your images never leave your browser

Every tool on ImageFinch runs client-side using HTML5 Canvas and WebAssembly. Files you select are read into your browser's memory, processed by your own CPU, and written back out as a download. Loading the site and its format decoders can still require network requests. Those requests do not upload your selected image for processing.

1. Who we are

ImageFinch operates https://imagefinch.com and provides free, browser-based image utilities. For any privacy question or request, contact us at [email protected].

2. Information we do not collect

To be specific, because this is the part people care about:

  • Your images. Never uploaded, never stored by us, never seen by us. The History box under each tool keeps your recent results in your own browser only — see section 6.
  • Image metadata. When the EXIF tool reads GPS coordinates or camera details, that reading happens in your browser. If you choose an external map link, its coordinates are included in the URL sent to that map provider.
  • Accounts. There are none, so we hold no names, passwords or profiles.
  • Payment details. Nothing on this site is for sale.

3. Information that is collected automatically

Website requests expose technical data such as IP address, browser details, referring page and request time to the hosting service. Retention depends on the hosting configuration. No separate analytics integration is currently installed in this version of the site.

4. The contact form

When form delivery is enabled and you send a message through the contact form, the name, email address and message you type are transmitted to Web3Forms, a third-party form-delivery service, which forwards them to our inbox as an email. We also include the page you were on, which helps when someone reports a bug without describing where it happened.

We use that information only to reply to you. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not share it with anyone else. Web3Forms processes the submission on our behalf; their handling of it is covered by the Web3Forms privacy policy. You can avoid the form entirely by emailing [email protected] directly.

When enabled, the contact page uses hCaptcha. When that page opens, hCaptcha's script loads from hcaptcha.com and processes technical data such as your IP address and browser characteristics to tell people from bots. This happens only on the contact page, and is covered by the hCaptcha privacy policy and terms.

Contact submissions are separate from image processing. The form does not attach your selected image. If form delivery is unavailable, the page can open a draft in your own email app instead.

5. Cookies and advertising

Advertising and your choices

Advertising is planned to help fund the free tools. Ad placements only run when enabled; selected images are not sent to the advertising service by the image tools.

If Google AdSense is enabled, Google and its partners act as third-party vendors and may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Specifically:

  • Advertising cookies may be used to select and measure ads, including personalization based on previous visits where consent and applicable rules allow it.
  • Third-party vendors and ad networks may also use cookies to serve ads, and we do not control those cookies.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings, and from many other networks at aboutads.info.
  • Any site-level advertising preference is stored locally in your browser. It does not clear cookies already stored by third parties; browser settings provide those controls.

Google's own practices are described in the Google Advertising Privacy & Terms. AdSense requires a Google-certified consent management platform for serving ads in the EEA, UK and Switzerland. Advertising for those regions must wait until that integration is configured. This site’s local preference notice is not itself a certified consent platform.

6. Local storage we use ourselves

We store two small preferences in your browser's local storage: your light or dark theme choice, and your advertising preference. The advertising integration can use that preference to determine its behavior. These local settings can be cleared at any time by clearing site data for this domain.

Tool history. When a tool finishes, its result image is saved automatically in your browser's IndexedDB storage, so it appears in the History box under that tool and you can download it again later. This works as follows:

  • History stores the finished result, its filename and processing details. A source identifier includes the original filename, size and modification time. The EXIF tool stores the cleaned result rather than the original file.
  • It stays on your device and is never uploaded to us or anyone else.
  • Results expire after 24 hours. Expired entries are removed while the site is active or when History is next accessed; closing the browser does not immediately delete them.
  • You can delete any image sooner with its delete button, or all of a tool's images with “Clear all”. Clearing site data for this domain removes them too.
  • Anyone with access to this browser profile can see the history until it is deleted, so clear it after using a shared or public computer.

7. Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Your rights

If you are in the EEA or UK (GDPR). You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Which rights apply depends on the processing and applicable law. Contact submissions, technical request data and any enabled advertising services may be relevant.

If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information. Serving personalized advertising may constitute “sharing” under the CPRA. A local advertising preference alone is not a substitute for all rights or requests provided by applicable law.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We respond within the period required by the applicable law.

Read the ICO public guidance and California Attorney General’s CCPA guidance for details about privacy rights.

9. Data retention and security

Image results remain in browser History as described above. Contact messages can remain in the form service and recipient inbox until deleted; technical log retention depends on the deployed host. Clear local site data on shared devices and avoid including sensitive photos in messages.

10. External links

Our guides link to third-party sites, including official government pages for photo requirements. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, and we encourage you to read their policies.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes or as legal requirements evolve. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version, and material changes will be noted on this page.
